Copy of a black and white photograph of the ICRR depot in Cherokee, view from the East, date unknown. The big sign (currently in South room of the express building) says Illinois Central Freight Station.

As I understand the chronology of events, the ICRR depot (two story brick building) in Cherokee, Iowa was constructed in 1896 and was used as a passenger station until May 31, 1971 when AMTRAK began. After that date the two story brick building was put to use as the "Illinois Central Freight Station" and continued in that function until January 1982 when the building was vacated by the railroad.
